This mantra was passed on to me years ago from a monk that I met in a little Tibetan shop in Pennsylvania. When he gave me this mantra he stood with me and had me say it over and over with him until he felt I got it right. One day I was chanting the mantra as I was cleaning a Murti of Avalokateshvara. As I chanted the mantra it evolved into this melody. Immediately a sense of humility and awe came over me as I began to connect to recognize some of the mantra’s subtle powers. This is a mantra of the lotus and is deeply connected to Avalokateshvara who has vowed to come back lifetime after lifetime until every sentient being has reached enlightenment. We recorded this piece live together in a small one room studio. There are only 4 tracks: the vocal, one mic on the drums, the electric bass, and a Moog Mono Synth. I love the overtones in George’s performance that make it sound so rich and deep.
